   * How to Report Game Results *

The winning team is responsible for reporting the game result.  Please send the result in no later than the end of Monday following the game.  Better still, with today's technology at your disposal, send it in immediately after your game!  We will update the website and the comparative scores will be available for all to see.

Send an email to:

Include the date, grade, division, the teams and score.  An example is this:
Nov 7th, 8A, North 39 East 37

The WYBL is a league that supports community-based teams.  It is required that each player reside in your school district or currently open enroll into your school district.  Let me be clear on this: no teams shall be comprised on multi-district players.  Players should be assigned to teams within their grade level (or play "up") and not according to age

As is always the case, please contact me at any time with questions and/or suggestions.  The aim is to continue to improve to make the WYBL the best youth boys basketball league in the State.  For Information Concerning the League please contact Lee Clement (414) 839-6800.     Email: Leeclement1@yahoo.com

  Year End Championship Tournament

  • Every team qualifies
  • Each tournament will be a one day affair (two exceptions)
  • Teams will be seeded into a bracket based upon their regular season records.
  • With plenty of games scheduled for February 24, the seedings & brackets will NOT GET posted on the website until Tuesday, Feb 26.  that's when you will have your exact game times.  Tons of work has to be done before the brackets go to the printers.
  • It is a minimum two game guarantee, possible 4-5.  Win your first game and you head to the Championship side of the bracket.  Lose your first game and you head to the Consolation side.  From there, one loss means you're eliminated.
  • The WYBL will directly pay all referees (this was included in the league fees).

We currently have four divisions within each grade (4th - 8th).  Some of those divisions have 20-26 teams and that is not condusive to run a one day tournament, so I am taking the step of ADDING another division.  That's right, we will be crowning five Champions per grade as adding the extra division allows me to run a 16 team bracket for the majority of divisions.

How will this work?  I will provide an example of my plan for 8th grade as a guide.

  1. 8A.  Current 22 teams.  Tourny 16 teams.  The bottom 6 will drop to 8Z
  2. 8Z.  Current 24 teams.  Tourny 20 teams.  The bottom 10 teams will drop to 8Y
  3. 8Y.  Current teams 0.  Tourny 16 teams.  This bracket will consist of the bottom 10 teams from 8Z and the top 6 teams currently in 8B.
  4. 8B.  Current 22 teams.  Tourny 16 teams.  The top 6 teams will rise to 8Y.  The bottom 2 will drop to 8C.  The top two teams from 8C will rise up.
  5. 8C.  Current 16 teams.  Tourny 16 teams.  The top 2 teams will rise to 8B.  This field will be the bottom 2 from 8B and the remaining 14 current teams.

I have posted the same example for each grade / division in the HANDOUTS section (2018/2019 documents).  It is called tournament Divisional Breakdown

Basketball Thoughts & Observations

A Basketball Carol

As the story goes, Ebenezer Coach was watching a basketball game on TV with his family when he observed a player travel.  “Bah turnover”, he said.  A few minutes later, after an offensive rebound and subsequent put-back, he replied, “bah, box-out”.  Though it turned out to be an exciting game for the majority of the family, Ebenezer was always negative and uttered his last “bah, humbug” before heading upstairs and going to bed.

Immediately upon entering a deep sleep, he encountered the Ghost of Red Auerbach, who reminded him that basketball is a team game best performed when all players are fundamentally sound and operating as one.  Do not coddle your stars (they’ll thank you later), but teaching is best done through positive rather than negative reinforcement.  And with that advice, he faded in to the distant past.

Next to appear was the Ghost of Phil Jackson.  He was preaching patience and the need to not be so negative when dealing with today’s players.  Different generations often require unique approaches.  “The best way to get a horse to drink from the water is to have them believe it was their idea in the first place to go there”, opined the Zen-master.  The map to the watering hole may turn out to be curve-linear, but the end result will be more rewarding.  With those thoughts, he, too, then vanished into the night.

The last vision presented to Ebenezer startled him.  It was a bit hazy, but he could see that a man was prowling the sidelines of a youth basketball game and berating referees over phantom non-calls.  He was yelling at his players and being critical of the outcomes even when they attempted to do the right thing.  He could see the unhappy looks on the parent’s faces as the coach continued his overbearing ways.  What poor sportsmanship, thought Ebenezer.  Where on Earth did he ever learn such behavior?  Shaking his head in an attempt to rid himself of this vision only served to clarify the apparition.  Try as he may, there was no denying it.  There, on the sideline, was the Ghost of Basketball Future…….his own son!

His restless night was broken by the alarm clock signaling his wake up call.

Wiping the sleep from his eyes Ebenezer Coach thought to himself, “yes, that was a wake up call indeed”.

It is amazing that people who think we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, and medication somehow think that we can afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, medication and a government bureaucracy to administer it.
