Wisconsin's Premier Boys Youth Basketball League

Team Registration is officially open for the 2023/2024 WYBL season!  The forms can be found in the HANDOUTS section on the left side of the website.  Please note each individual team must fill out a Team Registration form.  We understand tryouts at various programs may be ongoing throughout our registration period; we also require the signed Waiver & Roster form, but that may be submitted separately (though we love when they are sent together!).

The league fee of $910 per TEAM is broken down accordingly: $430 to be submitted to the WYBL and $480 to be retained by the team to pay referees before each game ($30 x 16 games = $480).  The WYBL will pay all referee fees for the year end Championship Tournament.

Below on the website (Communication Section) is a timeline of important dates.  Please understand we expect to be "fully subscribed" with team registrations and many decisions on new programs wishing to enter the WYBL will come down to particular needs in particular competitive divisions within grades.

Score Reporting:  I will attempt to gather all scores each week and post them on Monday morning.  If you do not see your score posted or it the posted score is incorrect, please send the correct score to wyblscores@yahoo.com.  

Do not send a picture.  Simple state the Grade, division, and result.  Example: 8A Nicolet 31 Kettle Moraine 30

Team registration DOES NOT equal Acceptance into the WYBL.  All returning teams have priority and the final number of teams in each grade/competitive division will be similar to last year but subject to the WYBL creating a manageable schedule, having sufficient hosting sites for games, and the amount of time/effort my wife will allow me to devote to youth basketball!

The WYBL is a league that supports community-based teams.  It is required that each player reside in your school district or currently open enroll into your school district.  Let me be clear on this: no teams shall be comprised on multi-district players.  Players should be assigned to teams within their grade level (or play "up") and not according to age.

WYBL - Timeline of the 2023/2024 Season

• August 15, 2023.  Team Registration formally opens
• Friday, September 15, 2023.  A preliminary review of the competitive divisions within grades.  The intent is for this "Soft Close" to establish 95% of the field and place them into divisions.  This will identify the missing 5% or so that we have to fill to round out each division within each grade level.
• Monday, September 25, 2023.  Team Registration is closed.
• Tuesday, October 2, 2023.  The full 2023/2024 team list separated by grades & division will be posted on the website.
• Monday, October 8, 2023.  A rough schedule that shows teams which weekends they are scheduled to play will be posted.  This will allow you plenty of time to schedule tournaments.  For schools hosting tournaments, I will need the tournament date provided to me  before I complete this task!
• Monday, October 15, 2023.  The complee game schedule will be provided in excel format.  This will include game locations, opponents, and game times.  
• Monday, October 29, 2023.  The complete 5,000 game schedule will then be uploaded into the website scheduler and reviewed for errors.  Once I communicate this task has been completed, the excel spreadsheet schedule is NO LONGER VALID.  Any subsequent schedule change will only be reflected on the dropdown menu on the website.
• Sunday, November 5, 2023.  First Sunday of games for approximately half the field.
• Sunday, November 26, 2023.  Thanksgiving weekend,  Games WILL be played on Sunday.
• Sat-Sun, December 16-17, 2023  With the holiday's falling on Monday this year, we will be losing two Sunday play dates.  As such, ALL TEAMS will be scheduled to play on one of these two dates (mostly Sunday).  BUT WE WILL HAVE A LIMITED SLATE OF SATURDAY, Dec 16th games!
• Sunday, December 24, 2023.  No games
• Sunday, December 31, 2023.  No games
• Monday, January 8, 2024.  Roster freeze date.  No additions beyond this point.
• .Saturday, February 10, 2024.  A limited number of games will be scheduled on Saturday because of..............
• Sunday, February 11, 2024.  Super Bowl Sunday.  Final games will end by 4pm at the latest to give people time to get home or to wherever they are headed that day.
• Sunday, February 25, 2024.  Last date of regular season games.
• Monday, February 26, 2024.  Tournament brackets and assignments will be posted at the end of the day.  Brackets must be sent to the printers on Tuesday, so no changes cam be made beyond this point.
• Sat-Sun, March 2-3, 2024.  Championship Tournament for selected competitive levels.
• Sat-Sun, March 9-10, 2024.  Championship Tournament for the remaining competitive divisions.  

A Basketball Carol

As the story goes, Ebenezer Coach was watching a basketball game on TV with his family when he observed a player travel.  “Bah turnover”, he said.  A few minutes later, after an offensive rebound and subsequent put-back, he replied, “bah, box-out”.  Though it turned out to be an exciting game for the majority of the family, Ebenezer was always negative and uttered his last “bah, humbug” before heading upstairs and going to bed.

Immediately upon entering a deep sleep, he encountered the Ghost of Red Auerbach, who reminded him that basketball is a team game best performed when all players are fundamentally sound and operating as one.  Do not coddle your stars (they’ll thank you later), but teaching is best done through positive rather than negative reinforcement.  And with that advice, he faded in to the distant past.

Next to appear was the Ghost of Phil Jackson.  He was preaching patience and the need to not be so negative when dealing with today’s players.  Different generations often require unique approaches.  “The best way to get a horse to drink from the water is to have them believe it was their idea in the first place to go there”, opined the Zen-master.  The map to the watering hole may turn out to be curve-linear, but the end result will be more rewarding.  With those thoughts, he, too, then vanished into the night.

The last vision presented to Ebenezer startled him.  It was a bit hazy, but he could see that a man was prowling the sidelines of a youth basketball game and berating referees over phantom non-calls.  He was yelling at his players and being critical of the outcomes even when they attempted to do the right thing.  He could see the unhappy looks on the parent’s faces as the coach continued his overbearing ways.  What poor sportsmanship, thought Ebenezer.  Where on Earth did he ever learn such behavior?  Shaking his head in an attempt to rid himself of this vision only served to clarify the apparition.  Try as he may, there was no denying it.  There, on the sideline, was the Ghost of Basketball Future…….his own son!

His restless night was broken by the alarm clock signaling his wake up call.  

Wiping the sleep from his eyes Ebenezer Coach thought to himself, “yes, that was a wake up call indeed”.
